Adriano Buzzati-Traverso and Luca Cavalli-Sforza in Pavia imprinted me with the interest in quantitative methods in medicine which I developed into research in Pisa working with Luigi Donato, as of today a friendly presence. Gabriele Monasterio was the inspiring example of my clinical years.
